In a touching humanitarian gesture, the University of Basra commemorated the late student Raghad Saadoun Wadi al-Gharbawi, one of the victims of the tragic Kut Hypermarket fire, by awarding her a distinction for her Master's thesis, entitled "Evaluating the Introduction of English-to-Arabic Translators."
This honor came during the discussion session held today, Thursday, at the College of Arts Theater. Feelings of sadness and pride were mixed in the presence of academics and touching testimonials, embodying the university's love and pride in its outstanding student.
The deceased student was preparing to defend her thesis before her death in the fire that claimed the lives of dozens. This prompted the discussion committee to award her this academic honor to commemorate her academic legacy and research excellence, and to ensure that her name remains immortal in the memory of the university and her colleagues.
"Raghad is immortalized despite her absence... A Master's thesis granted her academic immortality."
