University of Basra selected among the top 100 global universities in three categories in the World University Ranking Innovation (WURI).

The University of Basra has been ranked 51-100 globally in three categories: Industrial Applications, Intellectual Growth of Students, and Crisis Management. The WURI is a ranking that measures the real-world contributions of global universities to society. It highlights the creative and innovative approaches of universities' research and educational programs based on six categories.

The Industrial Applications category measures the university's ability to apply research with industrial relevance, moving away from traditional research paper output and focusing on teaching methods and lecture types. The Start-up Companies and Entrepreneurship category assesses the university's achievement in serving the community through start-up initiatives, instead of solely focusing on job creation. The Social Responsibility and Ethics category emphasizes ethical conduct and social responsibility, going beyond knowledge and skills for material success.The Intellectual Growth of Students category evaluates students' openness to exchange and collaboration across colleges and national boundaries, promoting an interconnected university system instead of an isolated institution. The Crisis Management category focuses on addressing climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and other global and local crises. Lastly, the Fourth Industrial Revolution category evaluates the university's efforts in digital technology, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud services, blockchain, and other related fields.It is a notable achievement for the University of Basra to be recognized as one of the top 100 global universities in the World University Ranking Innovation.
